Lawyer Nelson Vanlocke
Nelson Vanlocke has been practising as a lawyer at the Ghent Bar since 2015. He holds the Certificate in Criminal Cassation and can assist you in proceedings before the Court of Cassation.
A one-lawyer practice, and that is a choice
The practice has one lawyer. This means that the lawyer you speak to at the first meeting is the same one who writes your submissions and pleads before the court. There is no intake assistant who notes down your story and passes it on, no trainee who takes over the file when the diary fills up, and no internal handover in which information gets lost.
In larger firms, a file is often handled by several people. That can work, but it costs you time: with every change you have to explain again what is going on, and with every change there is a risk that a detail gets lost that later proves decisive.
One point of contact
You have one telephone number, one email address and one person to talk to. When you call, you reach someone who knows the file without having to open it first. For urgent criminal cases, that number can be reached 24 hours a day.
Your file from start to finish
From the first interview to the final decision, the same overview is maintained: what each document says, what was said at the hearing, which arguments have already been exchanged and why the strategy was adjusted at a given moment. That continuity is not a comfort but a working tool. On appeal or in cassation, what counts is precisely what was or was not raised at first instance.
Own practice since 2022
Before founding his own practice in 2022, he worked at Daedalius and then at PP-Law under Mr Patrick Praet. His traineeship began at Daedalius (pupil master Inge Geers) and was completed with Mr Patrick Praet, a member of the Dendermonde Bar.
International experience
In 2014 he completed an exchange programme at the University of Baltimore (USA): International Business Law, Intellectual Property Law, Corporate Law & Antitrust Law. Contacts with American colleagues, including lawyers who have since become judges, remain available for cross-border questions.
In 2014 he interned at Allen & Overy in Brussels in the European Competition Law practice group.
